Anul trecut, cea mai inovativă tînără companie a anului în materie de tehnologie şi Internet a fost declarată Mendeley. În cadrul evenimentului Plugg, Mendeley a fost aleasă de juriu şi de public drept cel mai interesant start-up din Europa. Serviciul permite profesorilor, cercetătorilor, studenţilor etc. să-şi organizeze mai uşor colecţia de articole ştiinţifice de pe computerul propriu, dar şi să le adnoteze, să creeze fişe de lectură etc.

Dacă 2009 a fost dominat de un serviciu cu veleităţi academice, care va fi compania cîştigătoare la Plugg 2010?

De cîteva săptămîni, îmi introduc distanţa parcursă cu bicicleta şi viteza medie în blog, iar un plugin creat de Andrew M. Whalen calculează automat diverse lucruri precum: distanţa totală, viteza medie totală, distanţa pe zi (grafic) etc. Poţi afişa pe blog orice doreşti, inserînd nişte variabile de PHP destul de simple.

Dacă ai Wordpress şi mergi cu bicla, Cyclopress te scuteşte de ţinerea unui jurnal de ture separat. În afară de Wordpress, îţi mai trebuie un ciclocomputer montat pe ghidon.

A, mai trebuie să ştii că paginile şi post-urile din Wordpress nu ştiu să interpreteze nativ cod PHP, aşa că ai nevoie de un alt plugin care ştie cînd introduci variabilele şi cum să le interpreteze.

Clubcooee is a 3D instant messaging client. I installed it and gave it a try today and I was impressed. It moves very quickly and it has some nice effects and sounds. For the moment, there are only a few rooms created but you can also create your own, although the items for decoration are still limited.

A more technical description from the official blog:

The core of Club Cooee is an innovative and worldwide unique 3D messenger capable of depicting a realtime and live environment on the user’s Windows desktop – without a surrounding programme window.

The lean Club Cooee 3D messenger client simply turns the depiction of avatars, rooms and items into a user-friendly interface in Windows Vista Widget style. But this unique technology also depicts 3D in Windows XP without any problems.

I just received an e-mail from the guys from Pownce and the news is sad: they are shutting down the joint.

We are sad to announce that Pownce is shutting down on December 15, 2008. As of today, Pownce will no longer be accepting new users or new pro accounts.

Pownce, a multimedia competitor for Twitter, was an online tool for sharing text and photos, music and videos, using a nice Adobe AIR application. The two engineers - Leah Culver and Mike Malone - will go to Six Apart, the mother company.
