Hurricane Katrina – News from New Orleans

Raluca, on the Bulleted blog: Helicopters keep flying in and out of the campus and wounded people and evacuees from New Orleans fill up the medical shelters improvized at the gym and on the stadium. Ambulances and police cars yell incessantly and the images on TV are nightmarish. They declared martial law in the once colorful city of Mardi Gras, as looters took advantage of people fleeing the town to escape Katrina and started robbing houses, stores and people and firing guns, terrorizing the survivors. Absolventi FJSC – sefi la „Capital”

Din noiembrie, postul de redactor-şef la revista Capital va fi preluat de Iulian Bortoş. Actuala redactoră-şefă, Andreea Roşca, a decis să plece de la Ringier pentru a se ocupa de alte proiecte. Redactori-şefi adjuncţi vor fi Dragoş Nedelcu (care are această funcţie din 2004) şi Oana Osman. Ambii au terminat FJSC, ceea ce ma face să fiu mîndru. Iată că mă mai pot agăţa de ceva optimist, din cînd în cînd.


DVDs in a taxi

I was in a taxi of the EuroFly company in Bucharest and I was amazed to see a screen above the driver’s head, showing promos for new movies in theaters. The driver said it’s on a DVD and the whole playback system is placed under the backseat. Anyway, he didn’t find this very useful and he told me that the company abandoned their GPS tracking system, as the traffic in Bucharest is chaotic and, even if you know where the cars are, you cannot estimate the arrival time to destination.
