Last night I saw some bits of a Dicovery Channel “documentary” about Dracula. The “researcher” came to Romania to “research” about that, using just Stoker’s book and an outdated map of the country. I was amazed by the lack of scientific objectivity and the excessive amount of cheap futile dramatization. I had this impression of the Discovery documentaries as being very superficial, but last night I had the opportunity of seeing the “americanization” of popular science in action. Maybe it was because I knew many things about the issue.
There was one thing in the film that I agree with, when the guy said: “I’m in Romania, a country half modern, half medieval”.
