Desktop Publishing class. The students have to type some articles to be laid-out in Adobe PageMaker later. The work starts slowly. They feel humiliated. „What, typing our own texts? Why not copy and paste some texts from the Internet?”.
Some students download and install YM and other messaging software, leaning on the posters saying „Please don’t install any software downloaded from the Internet”.
One student is 30 minutes late. When the class finishes, she protests: „It’s not fair! I didn’t stay enough, what, don’t I deserve the same treatment as my colleagues?” I explain to her that being late in class means staying less and losing some time from the real class. She leaves the classroom thinking I’m not fair. I guess she’ll sue me.
Why are you still teaching PageMaker? It’s really crappy… and outdated and user-unfriendly. Switch to InDesign :)
I teach Adobe PageMaker because:
– it’s in the curriculum
– we have licences for it
– it’s great for beginners
– you can do with it whatever you do with any another fancy layout software
George, I think I know how you feel! If you want to love these kids, please make some time on a friday afternoon from 6 to 7.30 an come join a Psichosociology class with my aliens! Trust me, they are far worse, and they are almost 300 hundred!
Now that I am awake, I can say they are 300 or 3 hundred :). Sorry!
