„How many pages does this 80 RON book have? Oh, only 300? Well, in that case, I’d better buy this wonderful book, ‘Noam Chomsky in 10 easy lessons’. It costs only 10 RON and it has pictures!”
The BA degree exam is taking place this week and I remember the tough negotiations between teachers and graduate students. The students wanted to convince the faculty to eliminate some pages from the exam bibliography. It was something like: „So, if you agree to drop this Agee pages, we might accept 20 more pages from Belch & Belch. Oh, but we’d like the part of the book with pictures”.
well some of the bibliography was/is redundant… especially those pages of brutal translations from American text books. I do not expect anybody to reinvent the wheel, just to attribute and not be redundant… and respect the students, who are not as dumb as some think. It’s all basic journalism anyway – respect your readers.
Kick some ass with that TOEFL. ;)
I’m sorry, Agee? Is that James Agee, of the „Let Us Now Praise Famous Men”? If so, I’m terribly impressed. I don’t think it’s him though.
Good luck with that! It will be a busy week, but c’mon you have no idea what great students you have there…I always enjoyed my colleagues from FJSC company, but since meeting today’s freshmen from other unis, I absolutely adore them! :) I’ll say thank you for that extremely hard exam of your, for the strong competition, for the hard to pass exams and for everything (some of you) are doing there. You are actually doing a great job! Well, ok, most of you :)
It’s Warren Agee.
Of course it is redundant, it should be. That way, intelligent students would have different point of views presented.
As for my participation in this exam, I hope it will only consist of supervising the candidates for some hours, though I doubt it will be only that.
