Online Technical Consultant
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty is a private, international communications service to Eastern and Southeastern Europe, Russia, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Southwestern Asia funded by the U.S. Congress through the Broadcasting Board of Governors.
The RFE/RL Internet Team is looking for a full-time Technical Consultant, for approximately 6 months, who has experience developing and implementing complex on-line publishing systems. Our strategic plan includes upgrading our current 26 language Web sites (see www.rferl.org for links), building new sites, including one for our Persian language broadcast service, Radio Farda, and creating systems to better support the day-to-day and long-term needs of news and information sites. This temporary assignment is based at our broadcast headquarters in Prague, Czech Republic.
RFE/RL is on a fast track to expand and enhance our in-house technical Internet team. We are looking for a technical guru to help us identify the skills and technology needed for our staff and projects, how best to create systems and platforms to support content production needs and the end-user experience. You will assess and recommend how our technical organization needs to be structured, what skills and expertise will most strengthen our current technical team, and create a plan for growth.
You must:
– have solid experience with on-line publishing platforms and database-driven Web sites;
– understand database structure, content management systems, templating and online best practices;
– present expertise in project management and work-flow processes.
Also advantageous would be:
– experience in technical operations for an online news organization;
– knowledge of online audio and/or implementing broadcast schedules into automated online systems.
