Budapest – Day 6,5

What seemed to be an interesting, interactive seminar yesterday turned into a general, boring long talk of the instructor about the traditional mumbo-jumbo in teaching. She talked for 2 hours and after the coffee break she tried to do something interactive.

But here is the trick: you can’t talk about interactivity in class,
during your training session, if you don’t use it from the beginning. Generally, you don’t promise anything to students unless you know for sure you’ll keep your promise.

Naturally, after the cofee break the class dynamic was very low and everybody wanted to get out. One more thing: how can a trainer in teaching methodology despise games in class, when they really have a learning outcome?

But there was one good thing: I learned that all teaching-and-learning sessions should be followed by tasks, to see if the goals were achieved.

The pizza lunch was more dymanic, in return. Two MA students participated and we could learn how the schedule is at the CEU, what are the requirements from teachers and what they consider to be a „good teacher”.

At the end, it was very funny to see that a participant from Lithuania didn’t want to take some posters promoting the CRC, because she had „too much luggage”. After convincing her that it’s the weight of a butterfly, she took three. I found them later, abandoned in a computer lab.
