Bogdan noticed FT‘s article, „Who’s afraid of the big, bad blog?” and has some comments on it. The original article includes some of the IBM’s guidelines for corporate blogging and I agree to the following. I emphasized those which I like most:
■ Be mindful of what you write. You are personally responsible for your posts.
■ Respect copyright, fair use and financial disclosure laws.
■ Do not leak confidential or other proprietary information.
■ Do not talk about clients, partners or suppliers without their approval.
■ Respect your audience. Do not use profanity or ethnic slurs.
■ Find out who else is blogging about your topic and cite them.
■ Try to add value. Provide worthwhile information and perspective.
What do you think: will there be such rules in the future, in the Romanean blogosphere? Do we need them?
Blogs are some fantastic democratizing tools – anyone can get a voice online. And during crises – like Katrina – bloggers performed better and had a more meaningful impact than traditional media. So blogs can be some powerful means. But credibility is a big issue and following those guidelines could really help in this respect.
We could ask Vivi about that :)
I agree with you, but it’s about business blogs here, corporate blogs. E.g., can I express all my feelings toward the company I’m working for, on my blog?
Yes, we could, but I’m sure he won’t ever blog about Google. I would do the same if I was him. You can’t just blow some tens of thousands of dollars and a bright career just to have a popular blog.
you cannot be free to do whatever you wnat on your corporate blog, cause you do nto really own it… there are quite a few articles on that. if you feel like saying your boss is a moron, get a personal blog. it’s kinda the same thing with using your work email. they own it and you for that matter.

A one Heather Armstrong was fired for blogging about her employers on dooce.com. Of course, it happened during the dot com boom and she probably would have lost that job anyway at some point. But now she is making a living off her very popular blog.
