They are the same 20 „journalists” who receive prizes, invite each other in talk-shows (shows with some talking), they are role models of students. They are proud they don’t have an academic background in journalism, they give speeches and teach.
I’m sick and tired of these talking heads, these show promoters who arrive in the newsroom one hour before the live broadcasting, to do the make-up and learn the first phrase of a text written by unimportant members of the team.
The same names everyday, the same faces, the same stereotypes… There are many young journalists who spend a whole day calling sources and checking information for that lousy news piece that they have to send to the editor by the deadline. They are not promoted because their faces are not „televisual” or because their daddy didn’t call the TV station manager.
Those unimportant people who hold microphones and take notes are the important people. They are members of the same team as these puppets that look nice and seem smart when they have the right text displayed on the prompter.
Can’t we get rid of this rotten environment?
Don’t mean to sound pessimistic, but I’d say this ‘talking heads’ trend will perpetuate in the future. It’s all part of the marketing business: if you’ve got a hot-looking news announcer, it’s more likely that people will watch your channel just to see his/her face. The image of the announcer is just another link in the grand chain of marketing and promoting.
[Side note: I hate these guys, too. Especially… okay, I’m not going to get into that ^_^’].
Not yet anyway! But I still have hopes for a better future. Although „dream” would fit better than hope here…I see my ex-colleagues, how much they work and how little some of them make for all their trouble. Those are the moments when I am sure changing fields was a good idea.
