Have you noticed lately that people’ faces go blank when you make a literary reference in a conversation? It seems that jokes based on books are not good anymore. Instead, if you remind them about a movie, a cartoon character or a pop singer, they all smile and say “Oh yeah, that’s right!”. Quotations from movies are very well appreciated. Everybody knows “Are we there yet?” or “It seems that we have a tail” or “Frankly darling, I don’t give a damn” or “Hasta la vista baby!”.
Well, well, well, how did we all get here? “Seems to me that this Bellini is turning into a real Kapuchnik”.
Because most of us dont read. That is why. No?
I agree with Shirazi. Most of us do not read.
By the way, I really like your blog. I wish I could read some of the non-English posts. Too bad I am not fluent in the language. The „Africanii” post is just one that caught my eye.
3rd that… most of us don’t read…
Well, some of us do read. But, as always, instead of convincing other to read, we find less time to read ourselves…Sad, yet true!
George, your blogroll is missing again…Just thought I should let you know.
Well, the blogroll is coming and going. I like this blogroll because I can add blogs even if I don’t want to logon to Blogger and change the template hundreds times.
I make references to the dictionary all the time. ;)
Thanks for having me on your blogroll by the way! I had no idea.
